Unit 6 - Tricks for your newspaper article

Good afternoon!

Here is the crossword we did today!.

Even more important, here is a model of a news article for your final task!!!

Account for who, what, where, how, and when. For example:

  • Who: Scientists in Andalusia.
  • What: An elevator to space.
  • Where: In Mulhacén, Granada.
  • How: After a ten year investigation.
  • When: Last Sunday.

Pick a good title!. I've chosen "Elevator to the stars!.

Next, follow these tricks for the first paragraph:

  • Grab the attention of your readers!: Do you want to go to space but are you afraid of rockets? Worry not!
  • Set the stage, tell the when and where: Last Sunday, in Mulhacén, Granada,
  • Do a summary of the what:the first ever Space Elevator opened to the public!

Your second paragraph can tell your story. Be sure to mention who and how and go into some details:

[...] The project is the idea of Andalusian Scientists after ten years of investigations. The elevator is made of glass and carbon fibers and can take people as high as [...]

Your third paragraph can act as a summary:

So, if you ever want to see Andalusia from above, now is your chance!.

The article would be like this:

Elevator to the stars

Do you want to go to space but you are afraid of rockets? Worry not! Last Sunday, in Mulhacén, Granada, the first ever Space Elevator opened to the public!.

Rockets are complicated to operate but elevators are simpler. The project is the idea of Andalusian Scientists after ten years of investigations. The elevator is made of glass and carbon fibers. It can take people as high as the Moon. During the first phase of operation it will only reach 200km.

So, if you ever want to see Andalusia from above, now is your chance!.

Also I wanted to let you know that I sent your ideas to our E-Twinning friends. I'll let you know as soon as they reply!
